11.22.08 Kids Room MakeOver

CREATIVE 8-YEAR-OLD DEVELOPS IDEA, COLLABORATES, & PAINTS WITH LOCAL SURF ARTIST TO TRANFORM
HIS BEDROOM INTO A 3-D BEACH, PIER, & SURF HAVEN

(Corpus Christi, Texas) No need to turn on the television to see an amazing room makeover these days! A local boy's bedroom transformation is taking place right here in Corpus Christi. And, it's not just your average coat of paint and new comforter either. The extremely creative kid is working with and coordinating the talents of a local muralist to bring in the surf, sun, and sand indoors ... into his 12' X 12' bedroom

8-year-old Patrick Haney is a self-proclaimed "water boy." The very creative Corpus Christi Montessori School 3rd grader loves the beach, sailing, kayaking, and can't wait to lean to surf soon.

"Patrick has wanted to re-create his room for some time - we've been mulling the project over for several years," says mom, Myra Haney. "Originally, he wanted surfing pirates, but decided on a true, blue watery surf scene."

Patrick met surf artist John Olvey through his father, Carlos', work and was inspired by his surfing background and images. The painter combines saltwater, acrylic, and soul to create an artistic impression of the surf lifestyle depicting the sand, waves, and surf motion as viewed from a surfer's perspective. Olvey is a lifelong resident of the Texas Gulf Coast and renowned surfer, and has proven his artistic skills at numerous state and national competitions for forty years.
